Our
adventure began with a night on the town in Vancouver, followed by
the breathtaking 80 mile drive from our sea port into the mountains.
The Whistler Blackcomb resort features two mountains with one shared
base village. We arrived in town at about noon. Just in time for a
hard half day of skiing. So we bought some lift tickets off the street
and headed straight to the top.
The King of the Trails is the Glacier on Blackcomb. You have to take
several lifts followed by a T-Bar, but its only about 100 yard hike
to ski the front glacier or the blow hole. A few crazy guys hiked
to the “other glacier”. I Never got a good answer on what was so special
on the other side. Maybe next time I’ll be up for the hike, but today, my
challenge would be the blow hole.
After
the glacier run you have to spend some time on the catwalks to get
back to main lifts. The next stop on our adventure is the Whistler
Mountain. Whistler offers more wide open bowls and a few cornices
for those brave enough to make the jump. The snow was also a little
better on Whistler.What trip
would not be complete without a stop to the Terrain Park. Whistler
has several, all of which were nice. As you can see my helicopter
needs some work.
All
the locals were friendly and the food was great, but Whistler is a
little expensive. It's not as bad as Vail or Aspen but pretty close.
It is also a very popular summer destination, with mountain biking,
golf, fishing, and a skateboard park to fill your day. Thanks for
