Ski
Utah
The
Salt Lake City, Utah USA area was Home of the 2000 winter Olympics and
one of the best locations to ski for a reasonable rate anywhere in the
US. Nestled in the Northern Rockies, there are 4 world class resorts
within an hour drive of down town Salt Lake. On the Southern side of
the city you have the advanced terrain of Altus and Snowbird and in
the Northern side the large Park City and the family friendly Deer
Valley. Room rates, car rentals, and lift ticket prices are all a
fraction of the resorts of Colorado. You can even catch a Jazz
basketball game on your visit.
Truth
be told, the city of Salt Lake is not that much fun, but its better
than it used to be. The downtown area has a handful of wannabe trendy
bars like those you might find in the Greenville area in Dallas, but its still home
of the Mormons so, what can you really expect. Salt Lake City is very
inexpensive, safe, convenient, and unlike Denver, the slopes are 1 hr
door to door from downtown. The mountains just outside the city are
truly special, as good as anywhere in Colorado. The Jazz are the show
of the town if your looking for some excitement.

Snowbird\Alta,
if not my favorite place to ski, is definately in the Top 5 with the
likes of Jackson Hole, Vail, and Wolf Creek. Great vertical and great
snow without the cost and crowd of Colorado. It's simply one of the premier
mountains in the US for expert skiers. You can Ski both mountains on
the same ticket and both of them together are the size of a large
resort. There is good lodging at both camps, which I highly recommend
over the city, if your budget permits.

Park
City, is probably the "Hippest" town in Utah. The mountain
is huge with something for everyone. You won't find the amazing powder
that you will at Snowbird, nor as frequently, but there is all the
vertical most can handle, and for the brave some good cliff jumping.
Deer Valley is a great place for the kids and those looking to be
pampered. They even have elevators from the top restaurant level to
the bathrooms down below. Or at least they used to. I don't make it to
Deer Valley very often anymore.
